On our preliminary task the shots we used were simple. There was a list of shots we had to use in the task, which were shown in the storyboard . Once we had filmed these we then experimented with some of our own shots to make it more intresting , when we came to cut it we had a lot more shots to play with , and we looked through them we decided which ones worked better. The editing of our final product seemed complicated at first but once we learnt how to use final cut it seemed a lot simpilar. On the day of the prelim task we didn't record any sound. This meant when we had finished editing we had to overdub it by re-recording in the studio. When we started editing wanted to use close ups in our beginning shots. This was to create a sense of confusion as close ups don’t show much , and this would make the audience think in their mind "Whats going on ?"
In our thriller we started the movie quite similar to our Prelim an extreme close up on our protagonists eye since this confuses the audience and makes them wonder where he is . Originally we decided when he discovered the bodies was to cut back and forth from the bodies to a reaction shot but it didn’t work as it looked wrong and badly edited . The film is only 2 minutes long, this meant that if we were trying to build suspense we needed to start of slow and build it up to a climax. In order to this we had a shot which slowly zoomed in and then when it stopped there was a loud bang . The POV shots we used let us see exactly what our protagonist sees which stimulates the horror even futher as he shines his torch over the heap of corpses piled against the wall .On the day of the Thriller shoot we recorded many sounds, A light switching on and off, a glass breaking, a table falling over, a torch rolling and items falling off the tabel and metal poles hitting the floor. The film doesn’t feature any music, this makes the protagonist seem alone .Only the ambient sounds we added using Soundtrack pro. When the final shot blacks out and the title appears, there is a loud bang. This creates a sense of fear, and was intended to be the last climax of the film. Before the sequence starts, we introduce the production company 'Redrum'. It is a ficticious company that we used since it was taken from the shining and Redrum backwards spells out murder. This keeps in with the horror genre . It comes in on a black background for a few seconds before it fades away to say the name of the director. The title of the film however comes in after the sequence ends and is in capitals to seem more important. We didn't put any titles in the sequence itself to keep the tension and suspense high , since we had titles the whole way through but this lost all sense of horror and it didn’t make it as chilling as we intended it to be .The lack of sound in our movie creates an sense of emptiness and in a lot of horror movies just before the scariest bit everything goes quiet. In our horror film the choices we made were used to lure horror fans to watch it , since we all like Horror our selves this was easy to do so .The choices we made were intended to make our film as frightening as possible which is the ultimate goal of any good horror movie .
