FIRST PITCH

As Keith Nugus explains about how for a film to work it need the convetions , they are listed below.

· The explicit and unashamed promotion of the artist’s “image” (aesthetic/generic/ideological) as a specific product with a brand identity, ready for mass consumption

· The featuring of the artist (almost without exception)

· A wide and extensive use of shot types, camera angles and movement

· Repetition of reoccuring thematic elements and generically specific iconography (one key element often being dominant and providing the skeletal structure for the promo)

· A possible narrative structure

· A possible performance element

· The flexibility to disregard Realism!

· Shots cut tightly to the beat of the track

· Use of special effects (lighting, annimation, CGIs, in-camera effects)

· A carefully constructed Mise en Scene appropriate to the content and tone of the track

· High impact instantly! (Don’t forget that competition for airplay on the main music channel outlets is intense)

Today we pitched our idea to Luke .We picked the song ‘another girl another planet’ by the Only ones. This a song from the late 70’s . We talked about the location we should film our music video . For the performance side we though about driving down to Camden that day and filming the badn playing in an abandoned alley way with the majority of the wall covered with old posters. Luke highly advised against this and instead decided that we should try to simulate this to the highest degree of realism that was possible in the studio. We thought about the narrative location of our video . We all though of the idea about having the band getting drunk with themselves and after with their groupies in the dressing room . This shows the having fun side to the song which the song is mainly based upon .

Research and Development

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FIRST IDEAS

My group , known as the dream team , will work through the five stages of production. We began by researching pop videos and there conventions and how the industry works.

I looked at the pop video singer Kylie Mynouge and found that she coveys the idea of sex appeal . She achieves this by showing off particular body parts so that she can attract the audience without giving to much of her self away .

I developed three ideas to pitch to my group .

My first sing is Black stone Cherry : Lonely Train

It is about a man whos looking for his old brother . He is riding across the desert and there is there is a rolling cloudy background . As he rides along . The song is about how theres a train which is society , and if youyr not on it then you are not accepted and are lonely. The Performance side would be the band riding atop a big pickup truck through the desert .The narrative would be about the fight that is going on through out the whole video.

Chris Brown : Transform ya

I would mostly base this video on the dance element . I would have all my dancers dressed in black , holding white masks to their faces. The performance side would be the singer ‘Chris Brown’ doing some solo dancing and rapping , and the female singer would feature in some of the video . I would have it so you could just see the outlines of the dancers and the white masks would almost be flouresent . On the black hoodies I would also have lines from the hands to the feet which act like glow sticks which are light blue. There wouldn’t be a story line as it would be concentrating on the dancers , but there would have to be an element of morphing , changing into something. Maybe clips of the movie transformers.

The Five Stages Of Production

1.) Research and Development

For research we are going to do a poll to see whether male or female like this song more. The target audience for my media product would be the mainstream audience of teens aged between 14-19. There would also be a market for the older generation . This is a mostly a song aimed at a male audience . In its time the song was aimed at people who just wanted to have fun drinking and getting high . We are going to make a line by line time line , then a whole pop video treatment covering everything we need for the shoot. . We need to explore the possibilities of doing the actual idea of the film and to see whether it is actually acheivable. We then need to do a storyboard about what exact shots and sequences we want in time with the music. Then a cast is picked and to make sure that the actor will fit in the video. We need to use a camera test to determine this.

2) Pre production

In pre production everything is got ready . The final product is a call sheet which carries all the information that is vital on the day of the shoot. So during this stage we prepare the casting , the costumes , the locations , the make up , the props and anything and everything else before the day of the shoot.

3) Production

This is the day of the shoot . This is when everything is filmed all though there may be pick ups later if they are needed.

4) Post Production

This is editing and after effect and can take up to a year on big movies.

5) Distribution and exhibition

This is the stage when movies are somd to television or placed in cinemas

The Brief

You have to create:
- THREE MULTI MEDIA PRODUCTS
- TO ESTABLISH THE IMAGE AND BRAND OF YOUR SINGER AND GROUP and
- HELP SELL THE SONG FROM THEIR FIRST ALBUM.

The group or singer must be a NEW GROUP (even if they are doing a copy of an existing song).

The song is a SINGLE from their FIRST ALBUM.

The actual products to be produced are:
- THE POP VIDEO
- A DIGIPAK for the ALBUM
- A MAGAZINE ADVERT for the ALBUM.
